INTRO ILLUS: A year or so ago, I was in the local AT&T Mobile store here in town, near Walmart. I was working on getting a new phone because mine was no longer supported. It took about an hour. While I was waiting, two employees started talking about abortion. Each said, “It should be a woman’s choice whether or not she keeps her baby.” They kept using the term “baby.” I calmly spoke up and said, “If an embryo is a baby, you cannot kill it.” That ended the discussion in its tracks. Because if any embryo is a baby from conception, and it is, then every miscarriage is the death of a baby and every abortion is the murder of a baby.
We all know this; that is why we weep over miscarriages. We do not weep over what the embryo would become; we weep over what it was from conception…a very small baby! A very small image-bearer!
The Bible teaches that. . .
1. Regardless of age or location, men, women, and children are made in God's image (Genesis 1:26-28).
2. Jesus was truly human from conception (Luke 1:26-41).
3. David was truly human from conception (Psalm 139:13-16; Psalm 51:3-6).
4. All humans are truly human from conception.
