President Joe Biden and Justice Stephen Breyer announced on Thursday January 27th, 2022 that Justice Breyer is retiring from the Supreme Court later this year when the Court goes on recess or when their current court session ends around June. This recent political news story made headlines because this will give President Biden his first chance to nominate a person of his choice to the Supreme Court of The United States. His nominee just like any other President's Supreme Court nominee will stay on the court either until they feel it is time to retire or they are impeached by the government. Although, Supreme Court justices getting impeached by the Congress is very rare to happen in the United States. Justice Breyer has had a long career serving his country from the Army to the Supreme Court. Why is he retiring now and not five years from now?
