Hi, and welcome to Revelation. We're here to help you solve your existential crises, one small step at a time. Today's episode is all about the value of human connection. We're talking about why it's so important for us to make the time to connect with people even when we feel like we don't have the energy or the space in our lives for it.
So grab a coffee and settle in for a good chat about how connecting with other people makes us feel whole and happy—and how it can bring us back from the brink of despair when we are feeling down on ourselves.
I've been thinking a lot lately about how connecting with other people can improve your work and life.
The truth is that even if we don't have a lot of time or space to make these connections, they will still benefit us in ways we never thought possible.
You might be thinking, "How can it be true that connecting with someone else could actually help me be more productive at work?" or "How could it possibly be true that connecting with another human being could help me feel more confident?"
It's because we're human beings. And humans are social animals who need to interact with others in order for our brains to function at their best.
When we don't get enough face-to-face interaction, our brains start craving this type of connection more and more. This can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, and anxiety. When you're feeling lonely or sad, it's hard to focus on what you're doing—you just want someone there with you so you don't feel so alone anymore. But when you connect with someone else and share experiences together (even if those experiences are just talking about your day), your brain releases endorphins which makes you feel happier and less anxious about being alone. And when this happens regularly.
We've all heard the stories of people who were able to stay positive and strong during a crisis by helping others—and those are just anecdotes. Studies have shown that when we connect with others, our brains release dopamine and oxytocin which both help us feel good and make us better at working together as teams. And believe it or not, studies have also shown that when you go out into nature for just 20 minutes a day, you'll come back feeling much more relaxed and focused! So why not try connecting with someone else today? You might just find yourself feeling more confident in your own skin—and maybe even more productive at work!
Additionally, when we connect with others we gain access to an entire world of knowledge and experience. We get to see things from another perspective and sometimes that perspective is exactly what we need to solve a problem or move forward in some way.
So, now we know how human connection helps with existential crisis.
We can use this knowledge to build ourselves up and each other. We can take the time to ask how people are doing and listen to their answers. We can reach out when we see someone struggling, or just offer a kind word when someone needs it most.
