*SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read Paper Towns by John Green, what are you doing? Go read it. However, I do talk in detail about the events of the book in this episode so if you proceed you will find out all the major plot points through the ending. You’ve been warned and this book was published in 2008 so I do not feel guilty if I ruin it for you!*
In this episode I get pretty vulnerable as I explore how identity can become a box that limits you, it can become a crutch which props up your insecurities and self-doubt without truly shoring the weaknesses up instead amplifying the very weaknesses you hoped to bolster, it can become a barrier to seeing and knowing yourself and others, and it can become a barrier to growth. Then I explore how humility can be an antidote to all of that. How being honest with yourself and others about who and what you are moment to moment can help you truly see yourself and show yourself, how it can help you connect, and how it can help you find self-love and self-confidence.
Throughout the episode I refer to the below books, poem, and personality test:
The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson, book
Paper Towns by John Green, book
“This is Not the End of the World” by Neil Hilborn, a poem from his chapbook The Future (Also performed on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/1lg2mLWOAi0)
