Description

Psalms 40:1-3 “I waited patiently for the Lord: and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” David in the text is speaking metaphorically. There is no account of him being in a pit, but the situations, circumstances, and the things David was going through in his life, made it feel like he was in a horrible Pit. The Bible makes no effort to hide David’s failures. When you look back over his life: his relationship with King Saul, Bathsheba and her husband Uriah, David’s wives and children, the blood and the battles; David spent a good portion of his life in a Pit. I can relate to how David is feeling. You see I share more in David’s failures than in his greatness. But the best thing about David, is that he is remembered and respected for his love for God. God himself said “David is a man after my own heart.” When God brought David out of the pit he did four things for him: 1) He lifted him out of the situation he was in. 2) He set his feet upon a rock 3) He established his goings. 4) He put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. If you ever find yourself in a pit, like David, cry out to the Lord to bring you out. He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think. In Jesus name. Amen!
