In German we only know one term for a chain - be it a functional one like for locking a bicycle or in the marine sector or as jewellery around the neck. In English there are two different terms for it. A chain - they say - is as strong as its weakest link. And that is true. If the tension is great enough, the chain breaks at the weakest link. So a functional chain will be made as evenly strong as possible and will not have a clasp like a jewellery chain. Because with a strong pull, the chain would break right there. The jewellery chain should be visible, may be beautiful and does not have to withstand breaking tests - in contrast to the functional chain. That's how it is sometimes: what should be beautiful and admired gets different attention than what has to function. It needs both. Therefore: let the beauty in your life simply be beautiful with the necessary care without overdoing it.
