The next Olympic Games will soon be taking place in Paris. The logo for this event is five coloured rings that overlap or are connected to each other. Each of these rings has a different colour and represents a continent. These are Europe in blue, America in red, Asia in yellow, Australia in green and Africa in black. The colours are derived as follows, according to conventional wisdom: Europeans often have blue eyes, the indigenous people of America have red skin colour, those of Asia have yellow, Africans have black and Australia is largely green. Very controversial today because of the racial connotations. This explanation is also wrong. The author of this colour assignment wanted to express: One of these colours appears in every national flag, so that all nations belong to these games. They are therefore also invited and identify with them. A completely different meaning. So beware: the common general opinion is not always the correct one.
