The desert is a place where water is in short supply. It is therefore a place where life is in great danger. I myself only have ideas about such areas based on reports. I have heard that the desert is a special place and not just a place to be avoided at all costs. Especially in spiritual matters, the desert is a very crucial place - we read in the Bible that the people of Israel received commandments and instructions there and made a covenant with God. Prophets met God there and were encouraged and commissioned anew. John was there before his public ministry and Jesus also went there quite deliberately. We also know desert times in a figurative sense. We talk about it when we find ourselves in situations where there is supposedly little life in and around us, where life becomes dry and hard and nasty. If you find yourself in such a time, know that there is life in the desert too, it is just a little more hidden, but it is there.
