Description

We recently had Fasnacht, like many other places. This is very special in Basel. It goes so far that on Epiphany Day, a bakery hides not a king but a porcelain carnival figure in the Epiphany cake. Many collect these figures and thus have a kind of cross-section of Fasnacht. For an active and committed Fasnächtlcher, these figures are more than just colourful collectible figures. They embody emotions, experiences, perhaps also hopes or even the meaning of life. That can be dangerous. When such things lead to an irrational glorification of a wishful thinking or a projection of longings onto something that cannot live up to them at all. This then also leads to a mixture of inflated expectation and dependence. Another, older word for this is idolatry. One subordinates oneself or places oneself in the service of such a madness. Understandable if God forbids us to do so for our own protection.

I wish you an extraordinary day!
