When it comes to the weather, we can make reliable forecasts and act accordingly by observing conditions and developments and interpreting them accordingly. As humans, we are inclined to know things in advance, to determine and thus to follow an urge within us, independence. Independence seems to give freedom and competence. Dependence, on the other hand, is being dependent on others or having no control. But having control also makes us proud, and independence and pride seem to be two sides of the same coin. In relationships, they are not good currency. They create distance rather than togetherness. On the other hand, those who have healthy dependency in relationships are more compassionate, more open, more willing to help and be there. When God was on this earth in Jesus, he did just that: made himself dependent on us. I believe he did it because he cared so much about the relationship with us.
