I was wondering where the image of the elephant in the china shop came from. I can't imagine that in Africa or India, where elephants live, porcelain is very common and here, where porcelain has a tradition, elephants don't occur naturally. So the picture must come from a time when either colonisation was advanced in the countries mentioned or zoos were already common in our country. Either way, I have never seen an elephant in a porcelain shop. Nevertheless, one understands the comparison and what it is trying to say quite well. Such images, exaggerations sometimes help us to express very simply what otherwise cannot really be expressed with many words. By the way, many of these comparisons or images come from the Bible: He who digs a pit for others, for example, or pride comes before a fall, or he gives it to his friends in their sleep. Why not read this wonderful book again and let yourself be surprised.
I wish you an extraordinary day!
