In Greek mythology, there is a dog called Kerberos. He guarded the entrance to the underworld, the realm of the dead, and made sure that no dead person went out and no living person came in. He did this until the day Heracles - also known as Hercules - came and overpowered him. He strangled and bound him. Of course, this story reminds me of what we celebrate at Easter - that Jesus defeated the devil with his suffering and death and subsequent resurrection, thus giving us eternal life and also opening up access - not to the underworld, but to eternity, a place that is presented in the Bible as a new creation that is not subject to transience. While Heracles used his own strength, courage and cunning for his heroic deed, Jesus acted out of love and gave himself. All that remains of Heracles is the myth; of Jesus we know that he is alive and will return.
I wish you an extraordinary day!
