Description

Many years ago we were on holiday in the mountains. Very close to the house where we had our holiday flat, a streambed ran steeply down the slope. It was dead straight and a small brook meandered down there in this man-made course. The canalisation of the brook allowed for the use of the land area optimally. That means you could build very close to the canal or lay infrastructure like roads. So it was a win-win situation: the stream could flow away and people could use the space optimally. If it hadn't been for a heavy rainfall. Immediately after we left, it started to rain enormously. The stream came out of the artificial riverbed and created a cruel havoc. The artificial stream bed proved to be a boomerang. If the river had been left its natural space, more room would have been needed for it, but the destruction would have been much less. Apparent optimisation is not always good. Especially not in extreme situations.

I wish you an extraordinary day!
