When I recently walked past a photo of our deceased son and got stuck, I was naturally reminded of him. In addition to emotions, this memory also brought back something like shared experiences. The memory was more than just thinking about something, it was like a moment of conscious experience, of a concrete situation. The picture in its small size of a few square centimetres had triggered this deep emotional effect. A relational moment, deeper and more diverse in its dimension than just mental retrieval of knowledge. I was amazed at what such a picture can trigger - and at that moment how important it was for me to still have such pictures in my environment, for all the pain that is triggered by these memories. I believe this was exactly Jesus' intention when he instituted the Lord's Supper for us: a way to experience his presence through bread and grape juice.
I wish you an extraordinary day!
