When we describe a person as poor, we mean that this person is pitiful, that they have experienced bad things through no fault of their own and that several unfortunate events have led to a miserable situation. In this context, poor is not primarily meant financially, but in the sense of lacking the ability to act or being unable to change the bad situation themselves. And in fact, it happens time and again in life that we find ourselves in bad situations through no fault of our own that we are unable to leave. The famous King David was obviously familiar with this experience and therefore wrote in the 34th Psalm "The righteous must suffer much". But then he also writes: "But out of all this the LORD God helps him. For he is near to those who are brokenhearted. He saves those who are without hope."
