Hotels usually have very nice breakfast buffets. And there are all kinds of things to choose from. I find it interesting that, depending on the hotel, the offers are either open or in portions. So jam is sometimes offered in portions and sometimes open for you to scoop yourself. Both have advantages and disadvantages: with open scooping, there is much less waste and you can take as much or as little as you like. However, there is often more food waste because people take too much and it is also less hygienic. Portions are more hygienic and probably have a longer shelf life, but because they cannot be chosen individually, they are often associated with food waste. Is one better than the other? I don't know. Either way, I as a consumer need to be responsible in dealing with what is on offer. In other words: gratitude for the choice and the possibility to choose, and a sense of responsibility in dealing with this freedom.
