There is a saying that you are clutching at the last straw. Supposedly, the saying comes from the old Christian seafaring. The straw floats and when you are drowning, it is the last chance, the last little hope to save you from drowning. Even if it seems hopeless, a person in a desperate situation nevertheless places his hope in everything that could somehow bring salvation. Perhaps, in an analogous form, the pious variant of this is "Necessity teaches prayer." I firmly believe that every atheist, no matter how tough, begins to pray in a truly dramatic situation. I think that's a reflex we have, a healthy reflex. I am also thinking here of emergency situations that do not necessarily affect you, but a loved one, and where you yourself only perceive helplessness and powerlessness. Do you clasp your hands to the straw or fold them in prayer?
I wish you an extraordinary day!
