On a bicycle, the wheels have to be filled with air from time to time. To do this, the valve is screwed on and air is forced into the tube with overpressure. The valve is designed in such a way that air can get in but not out. The principle can also be found in other applications: a door or flap that can only be opened or moved in one direction, but is blocked in the other direction in such a way that the higher the pressure in that direction, the tighter the place becomes. But what is used in this case may not be so good in a figurative sense. There are things that cannot be undone. Once they have happened, there is no going back on the time axis - analogous to the valve. Words, for example. What was spoken or written was perceived, triggered something - even if it is later revoked. Therefore: especially in heated situations, a conscious choice of words is all the more important.
