POPULAR PAULINE VERSES pt2

1. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST (Phil 4:14)
a) A very popular verse. Especially people who do great things.
b) Context is key – Phil 4:11-12. The “all things” – Is the being abased and abounding.
c) Paul had learned some things – 2Cor 11:7-9, 23-33, 1Cor 4:9-12. Phil 4:18, 1Tim 6:6
d) This verse doesn’t mean that you can break records, get rich, fly, etc….
e) It’s “Through Christ” who strengthens you – Eph 3:16-19, Col 1:9-11 – As member of his body you are attached to Christ.
f) Conclusion: We can go through all things (states) as a member of the body of Christ because he is our strength, joy, hope, whereby we are content in all things.

2. HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT (2 Cor 12:9)
a) Paul says this about his infirmities – 11:30, 12:5,9,10.
b) ~Infirmity~ Want of strength, weakness, sickness – Gal 4:13
c) Paul prayed for this thorn in the flesh to removed – 2Cor 12:7-8
d) Gods response? – My grace is sufficient ~to be strong, to suffice, to be enough~
e) Our weakness requires grace – Rom 5:8-21
f) Being able to bear things is strength, not taking them away – Rom 15:1, 1Thess 5:18
g) His grace is sufficient because we have everything we need – Rom 5:1-2, 2Cor 9:8, Eph 1:3,7, 2Tim 1:9, Tit 3:7, Col 2:10.
h) Conclusion – You have everything you need spiritually to go through this life, even if this life is hard and full of infirmities you still have all spiritual blessing and the hope of glory.

3. GOD WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO BE TEMPTED WITHOUT ESCAPE (1Cor 10:13)
a) Context – Example of people falling to temptation – 10:5-11
b) “Take heed” – Vs 12
c) “Common to man” – Meaning, all temptations humans experience.
d) “God is faithful” – He is not the tempter – Rom 5:12, James 1:13-15
e) “Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able” – Does not mean God is deciding what you are tempted with based on your individual personality – 1Cor 10:14, 6:18, 2Tim 2:22, 1Tim 6:6:11,
f) We make choices and face the consequences – Gal 6:7
g) “Make a way of escape” – The escape is right doctrine in you – 2Tm 3:16-17, Eph 6:11-17, 1Thess 2:13, Rom 6:3-4,11, Gal 5:16-17,24-25
h) “Bear it” – By Gods strength – Phil 4:13.
i) Conclusion – God has given us his word to help us escape the the temptations common to humanity so that we follow righteousness and do not fulfill the lust of our flesh.
