Romans Part 30 – Romans 9:25-33

Verse 25-26
• “As He saith also in Osee” – Hosea. Paul is quoting from prophecy in vs 25-26
• “vs 25” – Hosea 2:23
• “vs 26” – Hosea 1:9-10.
• Paul is not teaching that Hosea is talking about Gentiles as is clear in the context of Hosea. Peter also quotes this verse when he writes to the scattered Jews – 1Peter 2:10.
• Notice Hosea 1:6-7 which can be cross referenced to Rom 9:21-23.

Verse 27-29
• “Esaias also crieth” – Isaiah - Paul is quoting from prophecy in vs 27-29
• “concerning Israel” – This should clarify that Paul is still dealing with Gods purpose for Israel in these verses and not the Body of Christ.
• “vs 27” – Isaiah 10:17-22
• “vs 28” – Isaiah 10:23-25, 33-34 – Mal 4:1-3, Matt 3:7-12
• Short work is referring to the judgment that God will pour out on the earth and Israel and that this event will not be drawn out.
• “vs 29” – Isaiah 1:9
• Saboath = Host
• “Left is a seed” – The remnant that bears the fruit and God gives mercy to – Matt 21:43, Luke 12:32

Verse 30-33
•”what shall we say then?” – He answers at the end of verse 32 – Israel stumbled.
• “vs 30” – Gentiles get into the kingdom/righteousness by faith – Matt 15:22-28, Luke 7:1-10, Rom 2:10-11, Ruth, Rahab, Queen of Sheba.
• “vs 31” – Israel followed after the law but did not attain righteousness.
• “vs 32” – Explains why they didn’t attain, because they didn’t have faith – Rom 10:2-3, Luke 7:27-30, John 10:19-39.
• “For they stumbled at that stumbling stone – Matt 21:42 – Psalms 118:20-22
• “vs 33” – Quoting Isaiah 8:14, 28:16,
• The faith full remnant will not be ashamed and will get the promises in 9:4-5 – 1Pet 2:5-11, Isa 45:16-17.
• The stone brings in the kingdom – Dan 2:31-44.
