Romans Part 32 – Romans 10:14-21

Verse 14-15
• “how shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?” – Saved by faith in the tribulation because those who call on him are those who believe.
• “how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?” – Before you can be saved or believe something you have to hear and have knowledge of it.
• “how shall they hear without a preacher?” – This is why we need preachers so that people can hear the word of God and believe it – Psalm 40:8-10, 2Peter 2:5, Matt 3:1, 4:17,23, 1Cor 1:17, 2Tim 1:11.
• “how shall they preach except they be sent?” – Preachers/prophets were sent to Israel – John 1:6, Matt 15:24 – The 12 were sent by Jesus -Mark 16:15-18, John 20:21.
• Isaiah 52:7 is about Israel’s redemption – They had preachers of it - Luke 1:67-68.
• The word gospel simply means “good news”

Verse 16-18
• “But they have not all obeyed the gospel” - Because they rejected the messiah – Isa 61:1 cf Luke 4:17-21
• Isaiah 53:1 is a prophecy of the messiah and Israel’s rejection of him.
• Notice the “they” in these verses. More evidence that Paul is dealing with Israel.
• “vs 17” – Faith come by hearing, but Israel’s hearing was dull – Matt 13:9-16.
• “vs 18” - Israel heard – Psalm 19:1-4, 22:22-28, 2Chron 9:23, Matt 12:41-42,

Verse 19-21
• Paul shows that they both heard and knew from the law (Moses) and the prophets (Isaiah) – Psalm 49, Luke 16:31, Duet 31:10-13.
• “vs 19” – Duet 32:21 - The no people is the remnant not the Body of Christ – Luke 12:32, Hos 1:10.
• “vs 20-21” – Isaiah 65:1-2 – The remnant gets the kingdom – Isa 65:8-16. Unbelieving Israel gets judgment – Matt 3:7-12, 11:20-24, 23. Duet 32:5, Matt 17:17.
