Romans Part 35 – Romans 11-13-17

Verse 13-16
• “For I speak to you Gentiles” – These are Gentiles that were part of the remnant and the reason Paul addresses them is because they are boasting against Israel – vs 18, 20.
• Remember Paul had never been to Rome, he is writing to people who knew Christ already – Rom 16:3,7. Paul writes to the remnant – 2Pet 3:15, Rom 2:17.
• “I magnify mine office…..if by any means…. I might save some” – The reason Paul is magnifying his office is to provoke Israel to jealousy in hopes that some might get saved – This is the same reason that salvation went to these Gentiles – vs 11.
• “For if the casting away of them” – Cast away because of unbelief.
• “the reconciling of the world” – Gentiles were part of the remnant – Acts 11:18
• “the receiving of them be” Received by faith.
• “life from the dead” - Resurrection at the end – Heb 11:35, John 5:26-29.
• “vs 16” – Firstfruit/root – The patriarchs of Israel or maybe the remnant – James 1:18, Rev 14:3-4
• Lump/Branches – Israel restored, the fact that Israel should and one day will be restored in belief – vs 26. – Numbers 15:19-21, Lev 27:30, Prov 3:9-10,
•”holy” – 1Pet 2:5,9, Rev 21:2.

Trees in prophecy
• The only time Paul talks about a tree is in Romans 11, and twice when referring to the cross – Acts
13:29, Gal 3:13
• Trees representing a righteous man - Psalms 1:1-3, 52, 92:12-15. Trees representing Kings and dominions – Eze 31, Daniel 4:10-27.
• Olive trees important to Israel’s religion – Lev 24:1-8, 1Kings 6:23,31-33.
• Israel as a Tree/Vine – Psalm 80:8-19, Isa 5:1-7,24, Hos 14.
• The unrighteousness are cut down and burned – Isa 10:16-22,32-34, Jer 11:16-17, Mal 4:1-3, Matt 3:7-10.
• The two prophets that come in revelation are referred to as 2 olive trees – Zech 2:2-4,11-14, Rev 11:3-4.
• The Root is Israel’s kingdom/promises – The branches are the nation in their fullness – Isa 60:2-3,21 61:3. Jesus is THE BRANCH – Jer 23:5, 33:15, Zech 3:8, 6:12.

Verse 17
• “And if some of the branches be broken off” – These are those in a Israel who were blinded, those who did not bear fruit – vs 7,
• “and thou being a wild olive tree were graffed in” – Who is the wild olive tree? Gentiles, possibly sinners in Israel – Matt 9:9-13, Luke 18:9-14, Luke 7:1-9.
• Those who trusted in riches were cut off of the Olive tree – Prov 11:28, Mark 10:17-22, 1Pet 1:18
• “and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree” – These who are graffed in are partakers of Israel’s promises/kingdom and covenant blessings, which means it cannot be you.
• These wild branches are graffed into an existing tree, the church is a NEW creature – 2Cor 5:17, Gal 6:15.
• Nowhere is the church today referred to as a tree. The church today is the Body of Christ, every member one of another. You don’t graff in bodymembers and you don’t cut off body members – 1Cor 12:12-27, Eph 5:28-32.
