Romans Part 7 – Romans 2:1-11
Verse 1
• “Therefore” – because the wrath of God is revealed against ungodliness, thou that judgest but do the same things art inexcusable too.
• “Thou”x4 – the Jews – vs17 – Exo 18:13-26, 21:6, Luke 18:9-15, Matt 7:1-5, John 8:1-11, Matt 23:23-29.
Verse 2-3
• There is no respect of persons with God. He will judge all ungodliness and hold the truth in unrighteousness – Rom 1:18.
• Just because you have a higher position or more knowledge does not mean you escape the judgement of God if you’re guilty.
Verse 4
• Forbearance, longsuffering, goodness of God leadeth to repentance – Speaking of Gods patience with the wicked so that they can be saved – 1Peter 3:20, 2Peter 3:9.
• People despise the riches of Gods goodness, even in this age of grace.
Verse 5
• Those with a hard and impenitent heart store up wrath to themselves on the day of judgement.
• Not speaking of the saved – Rom 5:9, 1Thess 1:10, 5:9.
Verse 6 (verses 6-11 not speaking of this age of grace but the day of wrath)
• What judgement is it speaking of in verse 5&6? – The 2nd coming judgement – Matt 16:27, 20:12.
• Romans 2:6 compared to Ephesians 2:8-9.
Verse 7-11
• Good works for eternal life? – James 2:24, Ezek 18:19, 20:11,21, Lev 18:5, Matt 25:31-46, Luke
18:18-23. If you have a problem with this ask yourself what happens to those who don’t keep the commandments? Romans 10:4-6
• Gentiles that did good received blessing – Luke 7:1-10, Acts 10:1-2,34-35, Joshua 6:17.
• Jews punished for their unrighteousness - Num 15:32-36, Numbers 16.
• God is no respect or of persons is clearly seen throughout scripture. He chose to give his law to Israel but Gentiles could choose to become a part of Judaism.
