TEACH NO OTHER DOCTRINE (part 1)
A SERIES ON THE FUNDAMENTALS OF OUR FAITH

1Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightiest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.

1. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES?
a) ~Fundamental~ - Forming a necessary base or core; of central importance. A central or primary rule or principle on which something is based.
b) We will learn from the scripture the doctrines that we need to establish, proclaim, stand upon, & defend.
c) Being fundamental is not a bad thing, but that word has been given a bad rap.
d) These doctrines need to be based on the scripture and not man’s opinion.
e) These are doctrines that we find clearly taught and defended in scripture. We do not stand on opinions from a single debatable verse.

THE GOSPEL

2. WHERE DO WE FIND IT IN SCRIPTURE?
a) This doctrine is first in our series because you are not saved if you get this wrong, unfortunately many do.
b) Gospel means good tidings – Romans 10:15, Isa 52:7.
c) The question is which one is for us today? - 2Tim 2:15.
• Eph 1:13 - 1Cor 15:1-4, Luke 9:6,18:31-34, Mark 1:15, Isa 52:7/Rom 10:15, Gal 2:7, Rev 14:6-7, Gal 3:8.
d) As gentiles in this dispensation of grace, it should be clear that we learn what the gospel for today is from the apostle of gentiles that this age was dispensed to and to whom the mystery was revealed – Gal 1:11-12, 1Cor 9:17, Eph 3:2, 1Tim 1:11, Tit 1:1-3, 2Tim 2:7-8.

3. WHAT DOES PAUL TEACH THE GOSPEL IS?
a) It is not asking Jesus in your heart, making him Lord of your life, accepting Christ, being baptized – Rev 3:20, 1Cor 1:17.
b) You are not saved by your works, but by faith – Eph 2:8-9, Rom 3:22-24,4:5,5:1, Gal 2:16, Phil 3:8-11, Titus 3:5.
c) Being saved by grace through faith is how you are saved but not what your faith is in.
d) The gospel whereby we are saved is clearly stated in 1Corinthians 15:1-4. This is taught throughout Paul’s epistles – Rom 4:23-25, 5:6-11, Gal 2:20, 1Cor 8:11, 2Cor 5:14-15, 1Thess 4:14, 5:10, Tit 3:4-7.

4. WE SEE PAUL DEFEND THE GOSPEL HE PREACHED
a) Paul was not ashamed of the gospel – Rom 1:16, 15:19, Gal 4:13, Eph 6:19, 1Thess 2:2.
b) Paul defends the gospel – Gal 1:6-12, 2:1-5,11-14, Phil 1:12-17.
c) We should do the same – 2Cor 5:17-21, 2Tim 1:8-11, 1Cor 11:1, Phil 2:15-16.
