Description

Purpose by Design welcomes Luis Rosario, a 37 year old man who sheds some light on IGA Nephropathy which he has been fighting for years. He is so inspirational with his perseverance and never-ending optimism.

IGA Nephropathy is a disease that greatly affects how a kidney functions when it can no longer regulate blood and perform with filtering. Luis teaches that high blood pressure and scar tissue damage deprives the kidney from removing waste and extra water from the blood (as urine) and keeping chemicals (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) balanced in the body.

Once one gets this, it can go away and come back sometimes multiple times through a lifespan. When Luis was around 15 years of age, he noticed some differences in his body. He had back issues and was urinating blood among other symptoms. When he went to get checked out by a doctor, they gave him a clean bill of health but the symptoms did not stop there. He went to get checked out again, where he was told that he had 30% scar-tissue damage and only had 3 months to live! Talk about a complete polar-opposite scenario.

After seeing a pediatrician, Luis and his mom journeyed to find every natural remedy possible to help his kidney-situation. Around the age of 17 years old, he went back for a check-up and was miraculously told that his kidneys were back to normal and the disease was gone!

When he was 28 years of age, Luis went back to the hospital where he came to find out the disease had resurfaced. He moved from California to Texas where he received his first kidney transplant which came from his own uncle. Luis shares the vigorous process of becoming a donor as there are tests and multiple things they look for before giving the “Ok” to proceed.

Current-day, Luis is on a wait-list for another kidney which will put him at 4 kidneys, and is doing kidney-dialysis 3 days a week. Each time is 4 hours in length. Which means he is usually drained afterwards but wakes up feeling his normal, upbeat self.

Luis currently lives with his mom where she helps him with his daily needs etc. Luis is actively hoping, praying and searching for a donor to show up for another kidney. Please if you feel any nudge or know someone who has had this on their heart to please reach out to him!

Our lovely guest shares the importance of getting checked regularly as it is critical to find things out too soon than too late. It is on you to be responsible as we often fear the doctors but it is they that actually help us find problems, AND solutions to those problems so we can live a long, happy life.
