Purpose by Design welcomes my Father-In-Love / Law Robert “Bob” Henkel. He is 92 years young and has so much wisdom to share today. He teaches the importance of faith in life as it truly takes one fateful moment to change everything.
Bob grew up in North Dakota before his family moved to Billings, MT. He joined the military at age 17 and served until he was 19 years of age at which point he went to university. There he met his wife of 70 years: Betty Henkel who he happened to see across the room at a college dance - it was fate. They soon married and lived in Helena, Montana in the same house until Bob sold it this year to move here to Minnesota to be with family.
Speaking of fateful moments in time, Bob shares with us how one time sitting on a plane: he was put beside (then) the upcoming governor of Montana where they got to chatting. The governor happened to know the man who hired Bob which led to him handing his campaign over to Bob which in effect: gave Bob a lot of success. Later on, Bob opened his own ad agency that was a commercial success.
Bob discusses how he was one of 15 leaders in the community for the state of Montanna and how he acquired phenomenal friendships for over 40 years. In 1972, the state of Montana voted to create a constitutional convention to create a new document as the 1889 constitution was obsolete. The governor asked Bob to market this campaign where he worked to sell it to the people of Montana. As the votes tallied up: Bob’s campaign exceeded votes by 2500 people! Bob was given credit for being instrumental in the passage of the state constitution. If it wasn’t for Bob, Montana would still have the 1889 version - something to greatly be proud of.
Our lovely guest found and managed the Old Glory Landmark flag with Mount Helena in the background which he has since retired. The opening had 2,000 people show up to support!
If that wasn’t enough - last year, Bob partnered with my husband James to create a thriving car business that is only growing to date. Bob is very active and handles day to day tasks keeping him very busy at 92 years young. In addition to all this, he created 9 half-hour travel films which won many awards, and are viewed today (you can find some of them on Youtube). He has since sold his home in Montana and moved into our home where he will remain forever-on.
Grandpa Bob is nothing short of an amazing inspiration to us all where he personifies hard-work, grit, dedication, and loyalty.
Please be sure to share this amazing man’s story as it needs to be heard!
