On Tuesday September 11th 2001 at 8:46 AM American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The plane was occupied by 5 hijackers, 11 crew members, and 76 passengers. The South Tower of the World Trade Center was struck at 9:03 AM by United Airlines Flight 175, occupied by 5 hijackers 9 crew members and 51 passengers. At 9:37 AM American Airlines Flight 77 struck the United States Pentagon, occupied by 5 hijackers, 6 crew members, and 53 passengers. At 10:03 AM United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field outside Shanksville Pennsylvania. Flight 93 was occupied by 4 hijackers, 7 crew members, and 33 passengers.

In this short hour and seventeen minutes the course of American history was changed forever. 2977 victims lost their lives on that fateful day (Not including hijackers). Of those 2977 who died 343 were Firefighters, 60 Law Enforcement Officers and 8 Emergency Medical Technicians sacrificed their lives to save thousands of people. Their bravery, courage, and sacrifice should never be forgotten. This attack has led to wars with no clear end, and a death total of 6951 military personnel, not to mention the thousands and thousands of injured Americans, first responders, and military personnel from the attacks and wars that have followed. According to the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs at Brown University the human cost of the wars has resulted in 480,000 to 507,000 deaths.

We must never forget the losses our country has suffered and the courage of our men and woman who continue to serve and protect our freedoms. If you see a Dispatcher, Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Law Enforcement Officer, active or retired military member please thank them for their service. We must never forget these attacks and the sacrifice of the many who lost their lives in the name of freedom.
