In this episode we are talking with Dr Helen Lane about leadership through the pandemic.
Dr Helen Lane is a Consultant Physician, specialising in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board where she has worked for the last 15 years and a Quality Improvement Skills Faculty Tutor for HEIW (Health Education Improvement Wales). Having held a number of lead roles in Innovation and Improvement within the Health board for many years and clinical lead for the multi-disciplinary QI teams, she is also the Associate Medical Director in Quality Improvement for the health board.She has a distinction in Clinical Leadership (postgraduate certificate level 7), is an Improvement Advisor (Improvement Cymru & IHI), and has recently been a finalist in the Womenspire awards 2021.
Helen and our team have recently been successful in winning the NHS Wales Working with Industry Award at the Medi Wales innovation Awards 2021, for their Quality Improvement project working on safer intra-venous fluids in an acute general hospital.
She is a wife and a mum of 3 lovely boys. Enjoys painting glasses, as in drinking glasses not spectacles. And has an increasing interest in creative writing which has lead to the recent publication of a book of poetry with another colleague - Reflections through the waves: poems of the pandemic
Listen to Help describe very honestly her experiences of leading during the past 22 months. Becky and Helen discuss how the pandemic has impacted on staff and how that manifests in daily working. Helen also discuss how she started writing poetry as an emotional outlet that helped her resilliance.
