For 12 years my manuscript sat in a loose-leaf notebook, tucked away in a drawer. The story only I could tell, sat in a drawer serving no purpose at all. The people who were supposed to be blessed by my story had to wait 12 years. Upon reflection, I realized that I was ashamed. You see, the story, although not autobiographical or my memoir, was about domestic violence, something I was thoroughly experienced in. I was ashamed that I had allowed myself to stay in 2 abusive marriages. That fact kept me from publishing my first book.
I was finally published! I got booked in bookstores, I secured speaking engagements and sold copies there, I sold copies out of my trunk, I took a copy to the person who said I couldn’t do it, I even walked up to a lady in Walmart—gave her my 30 second elevator pitch—and guess what, she purchased my book in the aisle at Walmart!
