Description

We have on returning Philosophisnt guest Matt Torrijos who challenged me to discuss why I think Hayek is a relevant author and we end up debating whether freedom can be found for sale or whether it has to be won tooth and nail. Austrians and Marxists both put forward theories of exploitation to explain inequality, though exploitation means something completely different to Austrians than it does to Marxists. Exploiting a privileged position as a capitalist selling goods at inflated prices ONLY happens when government gets involved according to Austrians, whereas for Marxist-Leninists, governments inevitably get involved because of capitalism's essential dynamics. Challenging capitalist monopolies by enacting a temporary government monopoly is thus nonsensical to Austrians but necessary to Marxist-Leninists.

This video proves one thing. You still have to pay rent under communism (watch till the end).
