“Surrender. Don’t leave your bones here. We’re going to look after you.”✅After this attack, I temporarily lost my hearing. At the time I didn’t know whether I’d lost my hearing forever. There were no doctors who could check this, so there was no testing.✅Instead of going home, the commanding officer came to us and said, “You’re going to be transferred over to the other side, a kilometre and a half away. It’s a water pump station. ✅You need to replace the crew. They’re being massacred there. They’ve lost munitions, they’ve lost a couple members of the unit. They’re in very bad shape.”✅In ten to fifteen minutes, we replenished our food, munitions and everything. As we went, we shared the smokes amongst each other. Somebody had coffee in a thermos bottle. We drank this like it was water. ✅We started marching and crawling, walking and ducking, the kilometre and a half through the frosted land until we finally reached the water pump station. ✅We replaced the crew – some of them stayed with us, and they told us they’d been simultaneously hit with tanks and everything because they were so close to the enemy village.✅By midday, we knew that we were going to feel tenfold what we had felt the day before.
