Description

Sorge, who made his name as a Japanese espionage in the 1930s and 1940s, was born on October 4, 1895, in Baku, Russian Empire (modern-day Azerbaijan).

Richard Sorge was born to a German father and a Russian mother in Baku, where his father was employed as a mining engineer.

He left for Germany in 1915 to attend the University of Berlin and major in political science, economics, and philosophy.

During this time, he developed an interest in journalism and became active in left-wing politics.

After finishing school, Sorge went to work as a journalist, where he became well-known for his coverage of social and political issues.

He became a correspondent for the Soviet newspaper Izvestia and a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in the early 1920s.

Working as a journalist gave Sorge access to influential people and a plausible alibi for his future work in the intelligence community.

But his main objective was to set up a spy ring to gather information for the Soviet Union.

As a result of his covert operation, Sorge gained access to sensitive information and influential contacts at the German embassy in Tokyo.

Under the codename "Ramsay," Sorge and his network of agents—among them, his mistress Hanako Ishii—collected vital information on the military
preparations of Japan and Germany.

Through his network of high-ranking Japanese officials, journalists, and military officers, he was able to learn about Japan's plans for the Soviet Union and its participation in World War II.

⚠️ Achievements in Intelligence by Sorge: The information Sorge gathered significantly impacted Soviet military strategy and the overall direction of World War II.
