I'll talk a little bit about accountability today, even though you chose the subject.
From the moment we are born We all will have role on this blue rock called Earth however our goals and intentions will be altered trough course of our life. Someone will be worker, somebody doctor, somebody politician and list go on.
Some of us have made the decision to change life of others trough our actions for example helping others, some will try to alter course of one state, public opinion of its citizens however somehow actions undertaken by each of us will influence others.
Like theory of “Butterfly Effect” perfect chaos theory pioneered by mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz and later by French mathematician and engineer Henri Poincaré and American mathematician and philosopher Norbert Wiener so feel free to ask mighty internet for more info about Butterfly Effect.
Now you are asking your self what Butterfly Effect has to do with Accountability. Absolutely everything.
Particularly when we are talking about accountability in leadership.
Leaders understand that success requires personal development as an important step.
They regularly assess their position, have a plan for their own development, and are self-aware.
Leaders are accountable (responsible) for every process that is under their control.
Leader is aware that those in positions of authority are held accountable to the maximum extent.
So let me share small story about accountability, it is true story and it is related to me in time I spent in war.
Before we went to action I mean combat action I was given little black book, book in which I needed to calculate ratio of dead, wounded and all other sorts of calculations.
Most importantly I was told, you are accountable for life’s of others and everything happens on battlefield. I was only 20 years old. What is accountability for you?
Accountability is a word that most people dislike.
They fear that if they make a mistake or poor decision, someone will hold them accountable.
They see accountability as a crushing load that was put on them.
But Accountability begins with every one of us. It means that we are accountable (responsible) for others, decisions we make and voila, here is the Buterfly Effect.
Leaders are aware that being accountable is a must for being respected or trusted.
Even before they know how things will end out, they must be prepared to take responsibility.
When you take responsibility for your actions and keep your word, you hold yourself to a high standard that encourages people to recognize and trust you. Accountability is a key component of effective leaders' leadership growth.
Accepting responsibility and acting from a position of action are the first steps in being accountable.
As far as I'm concerned personally, If I say „I am accountable “, I mean that you could count on and trust me 100%.
