Three men were working by the roadside, breaking stones.
A traveler came by and asked the first man, βWhat are you doing?β
The man replied, βIβm breaking stones. Canβt you see? Itβs hard work, and I hate it.β
The traveler went to the second man and asked the same question.
The second man answered, βIβm earning money to take care of my family. Itβs tough, but it feeds my children.β
Finally, the traveler asked the third man what he was doing.
The third man looked up with pride and said, βIβm building a great cathedral that will stand for centuries. Every stone I break is part of something bigger than me.β
