The disappearance of 44-year-old David Merkelson first appeared in an article written by the SavageWatch web page host Terry Sutton in 2020. In February 2020, Merkelson had left his vehicle, wallet, and personal possessions at a hotel in Oregon and walked away. Almost four years later, Merkelson contacted Sutton after reading Sutton's article on Reddit.
