전도서(Ecclesiastes) 4:9-12
9. 혼자보다는 둘이 더 낫다. 두 사람이 함께 일할 때에, 더 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있기 때문이다.
10. 그 가운데 하나가 넘어지면, 다른 한 사람이 자기의 동무를 일으켜 줄 수 있다. 그러나 혼자 가다가 넘어지면, 딱하게도, 일으켜 줄 사람이 없다.
11. 또 둘이 누우면 따뜻하지만, 혼자라면 어찌 따뜻하겠는가?
12. 혼자 싸우면 지지만, 둘이 힘을 합하면 적에게 맞설 수 있다. 세 겹 줄은 쉽게 끊어지지 않는다.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
