Monday, we recapped the weekend in sports and current events. Revisiting themes from earlier podcasts that as they became extremely relevant topics. After meeting with a client, it is more important than ever that we understand the world from the ground up. For the body, it allows us to design, adapt, and correct it to enjoy a high quality of life. Organization’s work similarly. If we don’t understand how they work on a fundamental level, we are doomed to failure. It’s easy to be fooled by short-term success. It’s easy to attribute success as a byproduct of our actions, especially when it’s incorrect.
This concept is very relevant to the Alec Baldwin situation. The mechanisms of nepotism and cronyism extend to every field. Bypassing industry standards for personal connections. We discuss this heavily with the college admissions scandal featured in an earlier episode. We also address this in our previous episode on the Coaching Fraternity. Lack of integrity and accountability allows the so much of the industry to fall through the cracks.
In an organization, this may include the very steps that were required to be successful. How you got where you needed to be. How you’ll get to where you will need to go. Sports just gives us a visual representation of this process. We watch as bad owners recycle bad GMs and coaches. Hiring people with zero sports experience simply because they like them or they’re a family friend. Thus, we set the franchise back years with poor personnel decisions, poor culture, and poor execution. That’s wins and losses in sports, but in other industries it may costs lives.
