Description: Eve gets a phone call out of the blue from the man who is running the Miss Teenager contest. He is visiting in Devon and wants to see her!

The Miss Teenager Pageant. PART 11.

Phone call for Eve Jones!

Eve glanced at the hanging clock in the hallway and wondered who might be calling her now. Shorty wasn’t planning on ringing her up until he got back from his baseball game. Sliding down the banister, she swung her legs around to come in for a perfect landing at the ground floor. She flipped her hair and picked up the phone on the standing table in the hallway.

The voice took her breath away. It was a man. A voice she thought she should know. When he introduced himself as Glenn Sabine, she knew immediately who it was. He was here? In Devon?

“Y-yes, sir,” she stuttered into the phone, almost fumbling the receiver in her hand. “I … I’ll be there… of course.. sir.”

Pops had heard the difference in her tone and wandered over with curiosity.

Eve hung up the phone with a click and stared into space for almost an entire minute before she spoke. “He’s here… right here in Devon!”

Pops was flummoxed. “Wish I knew what you were talking about, honey,” he said.

She could hardly believe what she had just heard. Glenn Sabine! Here? In the 5-foot-10, 165-pound flesh? It was like a dream you awake from and you swear was real but really wasn’t, but this… this was as real as real really got, Eve was certain! In one fell swoop, her dream had come to her!

There was no time to lose. Eve’s pulse was off the charts, her breathing erratic. She rushed past Pops and back up the stairs to change out of her summer shorts into something that said pizzazz. Or was it pizzas, as Shorty often put it? Either way, she was going to dress to impress like she’d never impressed before.

Oh, right. Did Pops say something, she wondered? He deserved an explanation.

“Glenn Sabine, Pops!” Eve explained, yelling over her shoulder as she bolted up the stairs and out of sight. “He’s the man who’s running the ‘Miss Teenager’ contest. He’s in town and he wants to see me!”
