Description: Eve is in seventh heaven, relating her fortuitous story of meeting Glenn Sabine and receiving his offer to train her in acting. Julie is all ears until Eve reveals the game-changer.
The Miss Teenager Pageant. PART 24.
It was just past midnight when Eve had finally finished relating her meticulously detailed account of her serendipitous meeting with Glenn Sabine. Pops and Julie had sat on the opposite sofa to listen for nearly three hours. Julie had absorbed every word, but Pops was in and out of consciousness. With his arms folded to prevent himself from falling asleep for the fifth time, he nodded off yet again, this time raising the roof with a long drawn-out snore.
Initially, Julie would nudge him when she realized he had passed out, but this time she just let him be. Eve went right on yacking. Still in dream mode, she lay on the couch with her back resting on the end. Crossing her legs, she ran her fingers lightly over her cheeks. She breathed a loud sigh of contentment as her mind drifted back to the well-proportioned and stately host of the pageant who had swept her off her feet with his heart-stirring compliments and gracious benevolence.
“Talent’s just as important as physical perfection in the Miss Teenager contest, Mr. Sabine says. So with him helping me in acting, well,” she paused to consider, “it’ll be a breeze!”
Pops’ eyes popped back open. In less than a second, he gazed frenziedly from Julie back to Eve. Did Eve just say Glenn Sabine will be a tease? This was the part he needed to stay awake for.
Ever the skeptic, Julie leaned forward on the sofa and tossed out her question that was representative of what she and Pops, she assumed, were thinking. “Eve – does Mr. Sabine do this for all the contestants?”
“Of course not!” Eve laughed. “He said the pittance I pay him really amounts to chicken feed when you get right down to it…”
Juliet was flabbergasted, slapped upside the head with this new game-changer.
“Pay him!” Julie bellowed. What had Eve gotten herself into this time?
