Life in Manaslu is shaped by the people's religious beliefs, the local governance systems, and the anticipation of a future tourism boom. Over the past two decades, life has been undergoing massive changes in the high Himalayan valleys of the Manaslu conservation area. Development in infrastructure and education has resulted in fast changes in the livelihood of the people. The widespread idea that Manaslu is going to become Nepal’s ‘next Annapurna’ also provides an imagined future that informs the present-day decision-making of the people there.
Join us for an interactive conversation with Dr. Rune Bennike, a researcher who has been working in the Manaslu conservation area for over 7 years, learning about the people there, their cultures, their expectations, and how life has changed for them over time due a lot of overarching socio-economic transformations.
