This is Rex New. I wrote The Hacker Chronicles and I’m also one of its directors. The Hacker Chronicles is a thriller about a barista named Alice who turns to cyber-crime in order to pay off her student loans. The episode is Episode 11. It’s really the climax of our show. Our show’s heavily serialized, so I’m going to do my best to get you up to speed.
Episode 11 is called “This Is Not a Simulation,” and it’s about Alice’s crimes catching up to her. You see, Alice is hiding a secret from her best friend, who goes by the nickname “Genie.”
Genie is the person who gave Alice the initial idea to get into hacking. But after Alice pulled off her first big ransomware hack, Genie thought she walked away.
Except Alice hasn’t.
Now when we begin this episode, Genie is staying at Alice’s house for the weekend. But what he doesn’t know is that Alice has just pulled off her second ransomware attack on a company called Robert Sky. And the word has gotten out on hacker message boards on the Dark Web. Genie has read every single one of these threads – and he thinks Alice might have something to do with this hack.
So he wakes Alice up to confront her. And as the episode goes on, Alice begins to realize that she might not have gotten away with as much as she thought she did.
I think this episode really shows our team at the top of their game. We have some amazing actors who helped bring The Hacker CHronicles to life. Alice is played by Chloe Taylor, and she is such a generous performer. John Katona plays Genie, and Douglas Thornton plays Arthur.
And finally, I want to highlight our post-production team who really went above and beyond here. And that’s supervising producer Landon Pontius, our mixer and designer Dan Scott, and a lot of other great people on our team. They worked through quite a few challenges to create a soundscape that helped elevate this to the next level.
