ABOUT THE POEM:
This is a translated version of a mind-blowing poem “COVERT GUILE” OF THE LOVER. The poem is about what the girl’s friend told the lover by way of warning. She elaborates about the clandestine lover’s stealthy visits at night bother the girl’s psyche because of the rumourmongering of the chieftain’s adversaries. In the course of the poem, the poet uses an interesting simile to describe the girl’s predicament in the following lines:
“like a swampland lily
squashed underneath the wheels
of a speeding chariot,”

How stealthy are you to visit her
at sunset
tribal leader of the coastland,
cheering the hearts
of your adversaries
however, making your darling endure
