ABOUT THE POEM
This is yet another translated version of the poem HEIGHT OF DISGUST from Tamil literature. The colophon says that it is the silent agony and statement of the foster mother of the girl after searching in vain for the lovers who have eloped. The foster mother speaks about her utter disgust about the lover’s elopement and her tedious efforts to find them out with an ulterior motive to separate them.
HEIGHT OF DISGUST
The limbs
Have gone astray
and lost their proficiency
Eyes are blurred
and strained
Lost their capacity
Peering through and through
Exceeding the number of stars
In the immense overhead galaxy
can see only others in this world
