ABOUT THE POEM:
The poem MATERNAL MUSINGS: SEARCHING FOR A SON unfolds as a conversation, where the mother of a warrior, is questioned by a curious girl leaning on a cottage pillar about the whereabouts of her son. The speaker, uncertain and somewhat resigned, expresses a lack of knowledge regarding the son's location. The imagery of a womb abandoned like a tiger's den hints at the fleeting and unpredictable nature of the son's journey. The possibility of finding him in a battlefield adds a somber tone, suggesting the harsh realities of life and the potential consequences of conflict. The poem captures the essence of maternal concern, the mystery of a child's destiny, and the inevitability of facing the unknown, especially in the context of the unpredictable nature of life's paths and the potential for encountering challenges on the journey.
Maternal Musings: Searching for a Son
By your cottage pillar, you gently stand,
Inquired, fair maiden, my son's own land.
Blessings elude me, his whereabouts unknown,
This womb, a haven, now deserted alone.
Once cradled within, my precious child,
A den of dreams, where a tiger roamed wild.
Swiftly departed, a transient domain.
In fields of conflict, he may bear his name.
Leaning upon hope, in battles he may be,
A warrior's fate, yet unseen to me.
Through whispers of war, destiny is revealed.
In the midst of strife, my son may be sealed.
