ABOUT THE POEM:

This is a translated version of a magnificent poem MISTRESS IN DISTRESS from Tamil literature. The poem is about what the mistress  spoke in distress  about her separation from her husband. She complains in the course of the poem that how can he be so heartless.

MISTRESS IN DISTRESS

The seething sun has chilled

and gone past the slopes.

Twilight has set in

kindling nostalgic memories.

clueless about his whereabouts?

bogged down in his work

doesn't it seem obvious to him

that I am craving for his companionship?

How he can be oblivious to the fact,

the cool breeze that blows over

is adding fuel to fire

and aggravates my agony.

My gentle figure akin to a doll

vanquishes now feeble and pale

( what the mistress  spoke in distress  about her separation from her husband)
