ABOUT THE POEM:

The poem TRANSIENT AND TIMELESS explores the fleeting and impermanent nature of life on Earth. It begins by depicting the beauty of our planet, constantly revolving around the sun. Yet, despite this natural grandeur, the poem reminds us that life is transient—so brief that seven lives can rise and fall within the span of a single day. This conveys how insignificant the passage of time can seem in the face of mortality.

The poem then introduces a deeper reflection: the comparison between worldly life and the spiritual one. When placed on a scale, the worldly pursuits—material possessions, achievements and fleeting pleasures—are deemed insignificant, even less than a mustard seed. This metaphor highlights the ultimate worthlessness of material existence when contrasted with the lasting value of the spirit and inner peace.

The final section suggests that those who understand this truth, the “men of love,” choose to renounce the material world in favor of spiritual fulfillment. By detaching themselves from worldly desires, they become richer—not in material wealth, but in the wealth of the spirit, finding a deeper sense of purpose, love, and contentment. On the other hand, those who remain attached to the physical world, clinging to possessions and desires, are seen as the true losers, for they miss out on the deeper, more meaningful rewards of life.

Ultimately, the poem serves as a reflection on the importance of spiritual fulfillment over materialism, urging readers to consider the brevity of life and what truly holds value.

TRANSIENT AND TIMELESS

This earth, so splendid, revolves around the sun,

Its fleeting nature sees seven men rise and fall

Before a single day has even begun.

The worldly life, when measured

against the soul’s call, Is worth less than

a mustard seed’s tiny weight.

What the spirit holds, worldly gains forestall.

Men of love forsake the world and ascend,

Rich in the peace their selfless hearts have sought.

But those who cling to earthly things are lost.
