Description

This is the most raw and vulnerable I've ever been in the public domain. I knew it was time to do an episode on...

THE MEDIA.

Told through a more nuanced lens of the awful events that are currently happening in Ukraine and the Russophobia that has grown since then (as a half Russian person).

I tell the story of how I went from wanting to work as a BBC journalist to falling out of love with the media and waking up to just how one-sided it is all the way back in 2014.

Inside, I discuss..

🔥 Why I haven't watched the mainstream news in 3 years, and why I don't feel a need to

🔥 The language used the in the media to perpetuate the idea of "us" vs "them"

🔥 How the media focuses on one scapegoat and just how much you don't hear about in the mainstream media - why are some causes SO supported, but others aren't?

I tell a LOT of personal stories about how my own family were scared to leave the house, how Russian TV channels were removed, how hate crimes against Russian people increased, how supermarket items with the word 'Russian' on were banned... no, this was not communist North Korea, this was in the UK in 2022.

This was an INCREDIBLY difficult episode for me to record and you can hear just how emotional I am throughout most of it -- naturally I was very scared of repercussions, but I felt a larger social responsibility to share this story.

I welcome healthy debate and discussion in my DMs, but please keep it positive.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and main takeaways over at - @theunapologeticmentor <3

Love for everyone always.
