In Episode 9 of "In The Front Row with Mike Vaccaro" we're joined by San Franscisco Giants first base coach Antoan Richardson. A native of the Bahamas, Richardson recounts his early days raised by his mom and grandmother in Nassau. He tells us about his journey to the states and the culture shock he felt while attending high school in Florida where he excelled as an athlete and student. After turning down an offer to attend Brown University, Richardson would go on to play baseball at Palm Beach Community College and Vanderbilt where he would graduate with an engineering science degree. Drafted four times, Richardson eventually signed with the Giants in 2005. He is just one of seven Bahamians to play Major League Baseball and tells us about his debut in 2011 including his first hit against a future hall of famer, plus a big moment he had with the Yankees involving another hall of famer. Richardson retired in 2017 to concentrate on Project Limestone working with youth in his native Bahamas. He tells us how he started his coaching career that led him to San Francisco where the Giants had the best record in baseball in 2021. All these stories, plus his favorite opposing first baseman to chat with during games.
