While all of our communities face mental health challenges, Black communities often deal with more stigma and discrimination, and can receive compromised care. Negative attitudes and beliefs towards people who live with mental health conditions is pervasive within the U.S. and can be particularly strong within the Black community. One study showed that 63% of Black people believe that a mental health condition is a sign of personal weakness.
This series, called My Brothers Keeper is highlighting some of the amazing African American Mental Health advocates who are breaking the stigma and encouraging others to take their pain and use it for greatness.
