You Speak With Your Body More Than You Do With Your Words.
What a fun time I had chatting with Amanda Fuel, a public speaking coach, about facial expressions.
In this episode, Amanda has me go through an expression exercise she sets up the exercise with, "Okay. Let's do it. Okay. So Megan, I want you to think of an emotional moment. Don't tell me what it is an emotional moment that you've had recently. One that you wouldn't mind eventually telling us what it is. It can be good, bad. Happy, sad. Got one, got one. And I just for my information, is this something that you might have a teaching moment around some time you might someday share in a talk? It was some kind of revelation or awareness point? Okay, great. Yep. Okay, so Megan, I want you to tell me in a minute or two, what this emotional moment was, but you're not going to use any words. Okay. You're also not going to charade me like do charades and try to make me guess. Okay. So it's not about me guessing it's about you sharing this without words. Letting your face and hands light up, as we said, from within, with the expression of the emotions that are in the story." Since more than 90% of all understanding from an audience comes from your body, giving a speech via video gives you even less to work with. Lighting up your face and connecting your emotions to your words helps you connect to the audience in an authentic way.
